The idea for this promotional notepad was to illustrate the power of doodling as a creative outlet and jumping-off point for great ideas. A single 11x17 piece of paper that was placed in the studio lounge area, where the entire team was encouraged to contribute with doodles during their down-time.
The sheet took surprisingly long to fill up – it was apparent that doodling happened more when people were working than when they weren't (e.g. on the phone or during meetings). The solution enabled the user to 'doodle-all-day', taking down phone messages or making appointment reminders, while completing and embellishing upon the simple, partial illustrations.

The doodles capture the breadth of cultural diversity in the office, and the signs of the times – a flip phone, iPod, Scottish flag, Indian deity, and more.

Inner cover detail
Custom lettering explains the concept behind the notepad.

The notepads
Five tear-off notepads encouraged creativity while performing different tasks. The initial plan was to use actual Post-It notes, but 3M's licensing restrictions and pricing meant this wasn't a feasible option given the budget.
